Introduction: Current economic reporting from this country's largest and most prestigious institutions have revealed multi-quarter losses in some case in the billions of dollars. Recently, two adjoining states posted massive losses to their caring facilities prompting oversight, promised political interventions but more importantly, service line pruning and relinquishing of vital personnel.
Methods: This observational review investigates the collective 'unsustainable' losses experienced by most if not all large local and regional health systems as they struggled to sustain healthcare delivery opposed to service curtailment.
Results: Indications of service curtailment and delivery have been instituted nationwide, sparking concerns among practitioners foreboding further cuts of services and treatments.
Conclusion : Recession economics and reimbursement stoppages have enhanced the failing economics in healthcare, as the nation's largest healthcare systems have struggled of late to marginate costs and delivery.
