Neurosurgeon Trinity Health Boise, Idaho, United States
Introduction: Global and National workforce shortages secondary to the pandemical impact have negatively resulted in care delivery to all demographics and indices. We examine how the current intersections of demand and supply their impact on the expected yield and production of healthcare delivery in terms of patients, through put and, therefore, revenue.
Methods: Neurosurgical volumes are less in flux in larger health systems, yet elective caseloads have trended lower because of supply and staffing issues amplifying the carry-over challenges of the pandemic. A five-year prepandemic comparison was contrasted to the resultant last two years for trending data and reporting.
Results: With unexpected margin losses plaguing the entirety of the healthcare industry, elective surgical volumes have also decreased. Emergent care delivery has remained steady and currently adjusts for demographic change.
Conclusion : Revenue projections are/will be markedly affected as profit margins have yielded far below expectations for surgical volumes. These data comparisons are made readily available for discussion.
