Viviane Tabar, MD is the Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery and the Theresa C Feng Professor in Neurosurgical Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. She is a neurosurgeon with expertise in brain tumors, and a scientist with a focus on stem cell biology.
Dr Tabar’s surgical practice is focused on primary brain tumors and tumors of the skull base. Her research is focused on harnessing the regenerative potential of human stem cells towards repairing the brain. Her lab portfolio includes the development of human pluripotent stem cell-derived dopamine neurons for Parkinson’s disease; she has led a Phase I first in human clinical trial for the grafting of human embryonic stem cell derived dopamine progenitors in Parkinson's disease. The lab has also pioneered the use of human embryonic stem cell-based models of brain tumors. Dr Tabar is a member of the National Academy of Medicine.
