Patrick C. Hsieh, M.D., is the director of the minimally invasive spine program at the USC Spine Center. He is the Edwin M. Todd/Trent H. Wells, Jr. Professor of Neurological Surgery at USC's Keck School of Medicine. He also serves as director of the spinal oncology program. Dr. Hsieh is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, Scoliosis Research Society, and North American Spine Society. He is well-recognized internationally for his expertise in complex spine surgery for minimally invasive surgery, spine tumors, and spinal deformity. Over the last decade, he has been invited by international academic societies worldwide to lecture and share his clinical expertise with physicians and surgeons to improve spine care delivery in many countries. Dr. Hsieh also serves on the board of directors of the North American Spine Society (NASS), the world's largest academic spine society. He is the current international council director, overseeing the educational programs, membership programs, and community development for NASS members in the international community.
Over the last decade, Dr. Hsieh has been an invited topic editor for Neurosurgical Focus and a journal reviewer for World Neurosurgery, Journal of Neurosurgery, and Neurosurgery. He is actively involved in research and was awarded the Congress of Neurological Surgeons Depuy Spine Fellowship Award. His clinical and research interests include spinal oncology, spinal deformity, reconstructive spinal surgery, spine trauma, degenerative spine diseases, and stereotactic radiosurgery. His current research aims to develop primary cell lines and animal models for Chordoma to develop novel treatments for that rare but difficult-to-treat cancer. He is also active in spinal cord injury research as the principal investigator in multiple spinal cord injury trials at USC over the last 13 years.
