Medical Student
Duke University
Durham, North Carolina, United States
My name is Brittany Grace Futch BS. I am a third year medical student at Duke University School of Medicine. I completed my undergraduate education in Psychology at the University of La Verne in 2014. During undergraduate school and a few years after I worked as an automotive technician while I continued exploring my interests in health psychology research. I then decided to pursue a postbaccalaureate premedical program at the University of Southern California which led to my matriculation at Duke University of School of Medicine in 2020. Since starting medical school my research interests have centered on functional neurosurgery and spine surgery. In functional neurosurgery my interests involve neuromodulation and brain computer interfaces for the treatment of movement disorders including spinal cord injury, Parkinson's disease, and ALS. In the spine realm my interests focus on the biomechanics of spinal cord injury and cervical trauma. In addition to research I enjoy assisting medical students earlier in their training with exploring their interests in neurosurgery. This includes doing work as a neurosurgery selective TA for the neurosurgery department as well as organizing events for women interested in neurosurgery. Outside of medicine I enjoy engaging in outdoor hobbies with my husband including fly fishing, mountain biking, and equitation.
