Margot Putukian, MD, FACSM, FAMSSM, serves as a consultant with Major League Soccer and is their chief medical officer. Dr. Putukian is the former director of athletic medicine and head team physician at Princeton University (2004-2021). She received her Bachelor’s of Science degree from Yale University, where she participated in soccer and lacrosse and her medical degree from Boston University. She is board certified in internal medicine and has subspecialty certification in sports medicine. Dr. Putukian is a past president of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, has served as a team physician for the US Men’s National Lacrosse team and currently serves as a team physician for the US Women’s National Soccer teams. Dr. Putukian is a senior advisor for the National Football League’s Head Neck & Spine Committee and a member of the US Soccer Medical Committee and the FA Research Task Force. She has been an invited expert participant and co-author for the Zurich, Berlin and Amsterdam International Concussion in Sport Group Conferences. She also serves on the IOC Mental Health Work Group and the USOPC Mental Health Task Force. Dr. Putukian has co-authored several Team Physician Consensus Statements, the AMSSM Position Statements on Concussion, Mental Health and Mononucleosis and the IOC Mental Health in Elite Athletes Statement. She is an editor for the Netter’s Sports Medicine textbook, has been involved in concussion research, has authored more than 145 peer-reviewed publications, more than 60 book chapters and has given more than 235 regional, national or international presentations.
