Professor Kenan Arnautovic, MD, PhD, FAANS, FACS, graduated from the School of Medicine, University of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina as the top student in his class. He obtained a Master Degree at Sarajevo University, Bosnia and Herzegovina on the topic of Spinal Cord Trauma and PhD Academic Degree at JJ Strossmayer University, Osijek, Croatia on the topic of Chiari I malformations.
Professor Arnautovic joined Semmes Murphey Clinic Faculty in Memphis, TN, USA, in 2003. He serves as a Professor at the Department of Neurosurgery, and a Professor at the Department of Neurology, University of Tennessee in Memphis, TN, USA. Dr. Arnautovic has published extensively in neurosurgery peer-reviewed journals and has made 3 front cover articles of the most prestigious Journal of Neurosurgery. He is an Editor of 2 neurosurgical Books including the Springer’s best seller- Spinal Cord Tumors as well as Gliomas- Contemporary Diagnostic and Therapeutic Approaches.
He did his first neurosurgery residency at the Department of Neurosurgery, University Clinical Center, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina and a second residency in neurosurgery at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Arkansas, USA. He also completed a skull- base fellowship in Little Rock, AR under the mentorship of Professor Ossama Al-Mefty. Dr. Arnautovic is double boarded in Neurosurgery, in Europe- Diplomat of the Neurosurgery Board of Bosnia and Herzegovina and in USA- Diplomat of the American Board of Neurosurgery (Board Certified).
Professor Arnautovic currently serves as Chairman of the International Programs Committee of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) (2017-2023), 2nd Vice President of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) (2019-2021), Chairman of the North American Chapter of South East Europe Neurosurgical Society (SEENS) (since 2019) and Chairman of Committees of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) (20121-2023).
Professor Arnautovic is a Founder and Past President of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences (BHAAAS). He also serves as an Associate Editor (Skull Base) of Operative Neurosurgery and Section Editor of Cranial Base at World Neurosurgery, two of the top 5 neurosurgical journals. He is member of twelve other Journal Editorial Boards. He is member of numerous neurosurgical associations in USA and around the World including the Honorary memberships of Croatian Neurosurgical Society, Serbian Neurosurgical Society, Albanian Neurosurgical Society and Associations of Neurosurgeons in Bosnia and Hercegovina. He is also member of World Academy of Neurosurgery (WANS), Eauropean Academy of Sciences and Arts (EASA) and Academy of Arts and Sciences of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ANUBIH).
