Yuanfan Yang, M.D., was born in northwestern China and grew up in communities with diverse cultures as he moved across the country with his parents. His name, meaning “a lifelong journey for knowledge,” resonates with his later pursuits in education. He attended the top medical school in China established by the Rockefeller Foundation, followed by general surgery residency in Beijing and pre-clinical research training at Duke University on brain tumor immunotherapies. He also has a mission in global neurosurgery. His mentor, a respected pioneer of neurosurgery in China, encouraged him to get the best training in the US and to make an impact with international collaboration. Yuanfan enjoys listening to everyone’s stories and strives to advocate for patients’ individual needs in health care. Beyond work, he enjoys scenery photography, exploring nature and reading.
