Annabelle Shaffer MS is a medical student (MD, class of 2025) currently studying at Carle Illinois College of Medicine at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Prior to medical school, she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in human nutrition. Annabelle is pursuing a residency in neurological surgery.
Her areas of interest include traumatic brain injury, epilepsy, and neuro-oncology. She has worked on several projects including deep brain stimulation for anorexia nervosa, applications of ultra-high field MRI for neurosurgery, clinical outcomes of conservative treatment for spinal fractures in the elderly, and investigation of fluorescein sodium in brain metastasis resection. She is also currently involved in a number of upcoming research projects, including the investigation of CSF biomarkers in epilepsy, epidemiology and outcomes of tumor-related epilepsy, and neurosurgical disparities. Additionally, Annabelle is a skilled statistician, grant writer and manager, and scientific writer.
