Student Doctor Justin Maldonado, BA is a rising fourth year medical student at Morehouse School of Medicine currently working in the Emory University Department of Neurosurgery Skull Base Lab.
Student Doctor Maldonado is originally from New York where he graduated summa cum laude from John Jay College of Criminal Justice with a major in forensic psychology and a minor in chemistry. Initially planning on pursuing psychiatry, Student Doctor Maldonado moved to Atlanta, GA in 2019 to attend Morehouse School of Medicine. During his first year, he became involved in wet lab research focused on the relationship between trauma and the blood-brain barrier. Following a productive experience in the cadaver lab, Student Doctor Maldonado decided to change his field of interest to neurosurgery.
Currently, Student Doctor Maldonado works in the skull base lab at Emory University Department of Neurosurgery under the guidance of Dr. Tomas Garzon-Muvdi and Dr. Gustavo Pradilla. He is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the departments skull base cadaver lab, which includes a myriad of neurosurgical operating equipment. Moreover, he has played an active role in the revision, development, and completion of Emory University's Pituitary Neruoendocrine Database, which houses a collection of pituitary tumor cases. He also assists in the collection, delivery, and processing of skull base tumor samples.
