Weill Cornell Department of Neurological Surgery
Sergio W. Guadix is a fourth year medical student at Weill Cornell Medical College and incoming neurosurgical intern at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania in 2017, earning a B.A. in cognitive science. He subsequently completed the accelerated premedical post-baccalaureate program at Johns Hopkins University before transitioning to medical school at Weill Cornell Medical College. Once there, he was elected President of the Weill Cornell AANS medical student chapter and was active in creating new educational opportunities for his peers in neurosurgery, including the Weill Cornell Medical Student Neurosurgery Traning Camps. He now continues these efforts in medical education as Executive Director of Operations for Brain and Spine Group, Inc., a non-profit orginization focused on expanding educational opportunities in neurosurgery for medical students and early trainees through the Medical Student Neurosurgery Training Center. He also completed a dedicated research year under the mentorship of Dr. Mark Souweidane and was awarded the 2021-2022 Weill Cornell Rudin Medical Student Research Fellowship in Pediatric Neuro-Oncology to further his studies in direct drug delivery for pediatric brain tumors.
Sergio has diverse research interests and publications in the field of neurosurgery, including neurosurgical education, endovascular neurosurgery, adult and pediatric neuro-oncology, and pediatric epilepsy and craniofacial disorders. His endovascular research includes comparing outcomes for wide-necked aneurysms treated with varying devices and techniques as well as middle meningeal artery embolization in the management of subdural hematomas. Sergio is an incoming neurosurgical intern at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he looks forward to positiviely impacting outcomes for his patients.
