Paolo Palmisciano is an Italian medical doctor interested in pursuing a career as neurosurgeon-scientist.
Graduated from the University of Catania (Italy) in July 2019, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship in anterior skull base and Artificial Intelligence at the National Hospital of Neurology and Neurosurgery in London (UK) under the mentorship of Dr. Hani J. Marcus.
After obtaining his Italian medical license in March 2020, he completed his USMLEs step 1 and step 2 CK.
From August 2020, he started a research collaboration with students and residents working at the MD Anderson Cancer Center and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, under the mentorship of Dr. Tarek Y. El Ahmadieh and Mr. Ali S. Haider. His research focused on neuro-oncology and skull base oncology.
From March 2021 to March 2022, he completed a clinical and research fellowship at the Department of Neurosurgery of the Cannizzaro Hospital in Catania (Italy) under the mentorship of Dr. Giuseppe E. Umana. He dedicated his clinical and research work in neuro-oncology and skull base surgery, in spine surgery, and in the application of Mixed Reality in neurosurgery.
From March 2022, he started a postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of Cincinnati under the mentorship of Dr. Mario Zuccarello with a focus on skull base anatomy and surgical approaches.
He is actively involved in several projects of the Neurosurgical Atlas under the mentorship of Dr Aaron A. Cohen-Gadol.
Paolo will start is residency in Neurological Surgery at UC Davis in Sacramento, CA, on June 25th 2023.
