Resident Physician
Stony Brook University Hospital, Department of Neurological Surgery
Dr. Racheed Matthew Mani, MD, is a first-year resident in neurological surgery at Stony Brook University Hospital. He received his medical degree from the Stony Brook University School of Medicine, where he graduated Alpha Omega Alpha, and previously received his pre-medical Bachelor's degree in biochemistry and psychology at New York University, graduating summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. In addition to his clinical training, Dr. Mani is spearheading neurosurgical research with his neurosurgery department spanning multiple domains, ranging from developing and applying a novel theoretical model of intracranial dynamics, to analyzing clinical and radiographic characteristics and factors influencing outcomes in patients with intracranial hemorrhage and stroke. His primary project is the former; he is working with the Stony Brook neurosurgery department to develop a novel theoretical approach to intracranial dynamics as it relates to different forms of hydrocephalus, namely, the cerebral windkessel model. Utilizing this model, Dr. Mani seeks to better elucidate the underpinnings of various forms of hydrocephalus which are hitherto unaccounted for by current theoretical dogma.
