Resident Physician
University of Calgary, Canada
Dr. Catherine Veilleux earned her MD and MSc in Sherbrooke, Québec, Canada before moving to Calgary, Alberta to complete her neurosurgical residency. She is currently a PGY-3 neurosurgery resident at the University of Calgary. Her goal is to become a dually trained cerebrovascular neurosurgeon-scientist who will deliver high-quality, compassionate care to patients and their families through hands-on clinical practice, while performing clinical research on endovascular techniques.
Throughout her overlapping medical and graduate studies programs, Dr. Veilleux focused on the relationship between cognitive decline and cortical thickness in the elderly. Her efforts made her a recipient of Quebec Research Funds grant for her master's degree. Dr. Veilleux is now passionate about cerebrovascular neurosurgery; she firmly believes broad research interests early in her training are fundamental to diving deeper into topics across the neurosurgical field. She is planning on pursuing an MEng and MBA in her PGY-5 year to develop her research skills further. Throughout her research time, she hopes to share Canadian centers’ experience with both open and endovascular techniques in treating cerebrovascular diseases.
Catherine is an advocate for health equity and representation in neurosurgery. She is involved in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences Health Equity Rounds at the University of Calgary. She was a student-athlete in varsity cross-country and track and field teams throughout graduate and medical school. She continues to run almost every day and ran her fifth marathon as a PGY-2 (but did not have a personal best). She hopes to qualify for the Boston Marathon once more during her research years. In her free time, she also enjoys cycling, hiking, and skiing.
