Hashim Syed is a second-year medical student interested in neurological surgery. After attending Washington and Lee University as a Questbridge scholar, he completed a Fulbright research scholarship at the Pasteur Institute in Morocco. Through his project, he characterized antiviral resistance mutations in HCV strains and described the mechanisms conferring resistance. After the onset of the covid-19 pandemic, he returned home to Georgia before beginning medical school at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine.
