Fernando C. Castro-Prado M.D., Ph.D., is part of the largest neurosurgery departments in Mexico City (Hospital de Especialidades. Centro Médico Nacional Siglo XXI), with one of the largest budgets for deep brain stimulation in throughout Latin America, last year the number one of more Deep Brain Stimulation Systems implanted in this continent.
After graduating from the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés (La Paz Bolivia), he received his degree in neurosurgery and doctorate in hospital administration and public health from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He then completed a fellowship in Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver BC, then returned to Mexico City to finish a fellowship in Endovascular Neurosurgery.
He is the author of more than 25 peer-reviewed articles. He has served on various advisory boards and national committees, as well as a supervisor and advisor to neurostimulation and endovascular neurosurgery companies. He is currently president of Functional and Stereotactic Neurosurgery of the Mexican Society of Surgical Neurology, giving lectures for the Mexican Academy of Neurology, Mexican Society of Neuroradiology, Latin American Federation of Neurosurgery and Latin American Society of Functional and Stereotactic Neurosurgery.
