Dr Aversa was born in Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro-Brazil and graduated in Medicine from the Fluminense Federal University - Rio de Janeiro in 1991. and got a Master Degree in Medicine (General Surgery) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in 2001. He was board certified by the Brazilian Society of Neurosurgery since 1997. He did in 1996 ~ 1997 a Skull Base Surgery Fellowship at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, USA under Prof Ossama Al-Mefty mentorship and with Prof Gazy Yasargil and Prof Ali Krisht daily teaching in the Department of Neurosurgery of UAMS. Dr Aversa is currently Chairman of the Neurosurgery Section at the National Cancer Institute since 2014 and Coordinator of the Skull Base Surgery Program at the Clementino Fraga Filho University Hospital at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro since 1997 where he comprises patient assistance care, medical graduates and residents teaching, and research. He is a Reviewer for several scientific journals in the field of Neurosurgery. He is a full member of the Brazilian Society of Neurosurgery (SBN), having been elected a member of the Deliberative Council of which he is currently a member since 2019. At SBN, he coordinated the Department of Skull Base Surgery from 2004 to 2008, and was part of the Title Commission of SBN Specialist from 2012 to 2022. He has been serving as Secretary of the World Federation of Skull Base Surgery Societies (WFSBS) since 2022. He has experience in the field of Neurosurgery, with an emphasis on Microsurgery of Brain Tumors, Tumors of the Skull Base, Cerebrovascular Injuries, Microneurosurgical anatomy and endoscopy of the skull base.
