Dr. Michael Link is the Charles B. and Ann L. Johnson Professor of Neurosurgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, with a joint professorship in Otorhinolaryngology. Dr. Link grew up in a small town in Iowa, on the Mississippi river, and attended the University of Iowa and graduated with honors and hightest distinction and then continued his education at Mayo Medical School. He then completed General Surgery internship and Neurosurgery residency at Mayo Graduate School of medicine in Rochester. Dr. Link then obtained fellowship training in Cerebrovascular and Skull Base Surgery under the direction of Dr. John Tew at the Mayfield Clinic and University of Cincinnati. Dr. Link then began practice at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida for two years before returning to Mayo Clinic Rochester as Assistant Professor in Neurosurgery. He subsequently became Associate and then full Professor of Neurosurgery and in 2022 became a named professor in Neurosurgery. Dr. Link's primary clinical interest involves the diagnosis and treatment of skull base disorders especially tumors of the anterior, central, and lateral skull base. He is a past President of the North American Skull Base Society (2014-2015) and the current co-Editor in Chief of The Journal of Neurological Surgery, Part B - Skull Base. Dr. Link is a skull base liaison to the Joint tumor section of the AANS/CNS. Dr. Link has published approximately 400 papers in the peer-reviewed literature primarily involving the surgical and radiosurgical treatment of skull base disorders. He is the program director of the Mayo Clinic neurosurgical oncology skull base fellowship. In the summer, in his spare time, he enjoys sailing on Lake Pepin and riding his Triumph motorcycle. In the winter, he is satisfied with not freezing to death.
