CAPT Randy S. Bell, MD completed medical school at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in 2002. He then supeceded to active duty in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant, and completed his neurosurgery residency at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Naval Medical Center (National Capital Consortium). He completed the Medical Research Fellowhip at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research during residency, and a post-residency fellowhip in cerebrovascular neurosurgery and interventional neuroradiology at the the Washington Hospital Center. Since graduation, he has been stationed at the Naval Hospital in Okinawa, Japan, the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, and the NATO Role III Multi-National Medical Unit in Kandahar, Afghanistan. His general research interests center around the management of severe closed and penetrating brain injury, with specific foci that include the diagnosis and treatment of traumatic cerebrovascular injury, and the timing and use of heparinoids in central nervous system trauma. He is now a Captain in the United States Navy, the immediate past chair of neurosurgery at Walter Reed, and professor of surgery at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences.
