Introduction: AIS in the united states is a leading cause of death and disability. Some studies have shown a decline in the incidence rates of AIS hospitalizations in the united states, several Age, Sex and race disparities have also been reported for AIS patients in the united states as improvement in access to primary care have not been beneficial all equally.

Methods: Trends in hospitalization for AIS from 2010 to 2020 were assessed for adults ≥25 years using NIS. Age, sex, and race/ethnic‐specific and age‐adjusted stroke hospitalization rates were calculated using the weighted number of hospitalizations, US census data and yearly rate comparisons across years were standardized with the age distribution of the US population in 2000.

Results: The age- adjusted AIS hospitalization rates increased from 2010 to 2020 (230 vs, 254 per 100.000, 10.43%). Age- specific AIS hospitalization rates increased between ages 25 to 44 years old (25 vs, 37 per 100.000, 48%), ages 45 to 64 (171 vs, 235 per 100.000, 37.42%), ages 65 to 84 (669 vs, 688 per 100.000, 2.84%) while it decreased between ages 85 and older (2005 vs., 1756 per 100.000, 12.41%). Black had the highest age-adjusted rates, followed by white and Hispanics. Age- adjusted AIS Hospitalization rates increased between black patients (406 vs, 437 per 100.000, 7.6%), white patients (181 vs, 215 per 100.000, 18.7%) and Hispanic patients (182 vs., 207 per 100.000, 13.7%). Age-adjusted AIS hospitalization rates were lower in women compared to Men and increased slightly compared to men (241 to 250 per 100.000 in women, 3.7% versus 270 to 308 per 100.000 in men, 14%).

Conclusion : Stroke hospitalization rates increased in the United States over years among youngest patients followed by ages 45 to 64 and ages 65 to 84. Rates increased for white, black, Hispanic people, men, and women across 11- years.
